Draft Survey
We read the vessel's drafts before and after loading or discharge to calculate the cargo quantity moved.
An inspector reads the draft marks forward, midships and aft on both sides of the hull. We then account for ballast, fresh water and fuel on board and work through the vessel's tables to calculate the weight of cargo loaded or discharged. It is the usual way to measure bulk cargo when there is no shore scale.
